Ambrieres-les-Vallées … (17th June till 4th September) Swimming Pool, Kayaks, electric Boats, tennis, Riverside walks, Horse riding & cycling.
Near to Ambrieres in the small hamlet of La Haie Traversaine you can windsurf or sail at the sports centre
Bagnoles-de-l'Orne… A Spa town, with a central lake with Boats/pedalos, a Casino, cafés, restaurants and shops. Also there are pleasant walks through the
wooded adventure play area and of course the Spa.
Beaches... Visit the D. Day landing beaches of Gold, Juno, Omaha, Sword and Utha all about 2 and a half hours away, make a day of it and take in the Bayeux Tapestry museum as well.
Châtillon-sur-Colmont… Boulangerie/Pâtisserie, Mini Supermarket, a Church, 2 Bars, and excellent Plat du Jour at the bar Au Trou Normand.
Bayeux... See the famous Tapestry, (a short 2hr drive) to the picturesque medieval town and tapestry museum of Bayeux. Museum open 7/7, (9am - 18:30 from 15th march to 8th November & 9:30 - 12:30 then 14:00 - 18:00, from 9th November to 14th March)
Domfront… A Medieval town & Castle ruins , well recommended for a visit.
Ernée... Go carting for the family.
Fougères… Boasts the best example of an Ancient Châteaux throughout the whole
of France, a beautiful old Church & splendid gardens as well as the old town with restaurants and Curio shops.
Gorron... Fishing in private carp lake (1lb - 40lb) catch possible, (throw back), just outside the town of Gorron. 20 minutes door to door from Gitemayenne.
Jublains… Extensive Roman ruins and a wonderful museum, the town of Jublains
used to be a roman settlement and still visible today are the sites and ruins of the fort, baths, temple and theatre.
Lassay le Châteaux… A beautiful Châteaux set in an attractive town, which is well worth a visit, especially as the Châteaux is open to the public daily with guided tours.
La Ferté-Macé... Has a good size lake, and provides facilities for supervised bathing from sandy beaches, water sports and waterside bar/cafe.
Le Mans… The home of Formula 1.
Laval … With its 27 hole golf course, is the largest town in the Mayenne.
Mayenne… Church of Notre Dame founded in the year 1110, Boats/pedalos on
river, Shops, a weekly market (Mondays) open air concerts weekly during the Summer, Riverside walks, indoor Swimming pool, The Forest of Mayenne for walks & cycling.
Mount Saint Michel...The unique island monastery just off the coast near St Malo and accessed by a causeway to which a visit to France is not complete without a trip to this remarkable island. (about one and a half hours drive from Gite Mayenne).
Saulges… Prehistoric Caves , with stalactites and stalagmites and walks through
the Glacial valley.
Sainte Suzanne… A medieval town on the way to Saulges , well worth a visit also 2km
South of Sainte Suzanne is Le Ferté-Clairbois , where they have medieval jousting and banquets weekly throughout the months of July & August.
St Fraimbault … Flower displays and a recommended Restaurant called Papillon, which
has a renowned French chef and English can be spoken.
St Leonard de Bois… Aerial Walkways (not for the faint-hearted) & woodland Walks.
